Hovnanian’s wall sculpture Beauty Queen Trophy Case presents a row of eleven beauty queen trophies, each wreathed with a garland of narcissus flowers and sealed behind a sterile white shadowbox. Each beauty queen statuette has been sculpted with slightly different body proportions, exemplifying variations on the beauty theme of the ideal figure. Beauty Queen Trophy Case reconciles the traditional fertility symbol’s social and aesthetic utility with modern-day individuality while still retaining her requisite anonymity.
